Hey,

Just wondering whether anyone has taken their pride and joy on a road trip, and if so, what were some of your experiences with the CX-7 ?!?

My experience was taking my CX-7 up to Jervis Bay from Melbourne, around 850km one way over the Queens Birthday weekend ! I have never owned a large vehicle like the CX-7 before, but was totally blown away how comfortable it was on a long trip. The sound system was awesome, cranking out the tunes to keep us awake. It was also fantastic on windy roads, holding the line very well for it's size. On the return journey down Princes Highway, we returned 10.2lt/100km ! On the minus side, the alternate side of the rear floor is a little fussy, with our luggage and stuff settling in transit and slipping around a lot and easily marking the surface. But hey, it's there to be used. Next time will plop a picnic rug or something over the surface. Other than that, it was superb :)

Any stories ?!?

Cheers.

Did Melbourne-Adelaide-Melbourne on the QB long weekend, about 1600ks.

Got just under 11lts/100k for the trip.

Interestingly, last week was the first time I was able to get 500k from a tank commuting inner city Melbourne and the overall display is now 13.8 l/110.

Have 8500 total kms and the fuel economy is really starting to improve as the motor frees up a bit.

Had a bad motorbike accident a couple of years ago and long trips have been a pain since then. Must say that the CX7 had no ill effects on me and the comfort factor was way better than my late model Calais.

Was a s**tload of fun as a bonus

I know I am not in Australia, but I wanted to fit in. 8 hour road trip for us each way from Florida to New Orleans on vacation. Took family around when we were there, and they loved it, the navigation, as well as the sound of the engine!

I did 400kms from Mt Gambier to Adelaide and I loved the heated seats, stereo and the plush ride....The only thing which was a pain was the two silver strips which go from the centre console to the front window. The two strips reflected onto the front windscreen the whole trip.

Also I sat on 118kms for the first half of the trip and the fuel economy was terrible. I then slowed down to 112Kms and the fuel economy improved dramatically. Maybe the turbo kicks in with the speed difference in sixth gear!

Done a trip from DC to Buffalo NY. Got the car into four digits. The MPG was all over the place from 21 MPG to 25 MPG. Also found the plastic to be a little cheap and prone to scratches. The reflection of the silver stips you get used to but these also got scratched up on the trip and it looks really bad. I'm not so keen on the Cruise control controls I prefer the one's in my 6. I loved it in fast moving traffic coming back the car really comes into its own when you’re moving for zipping in and out of traffic and we had the car fully loaded with cargo well impressed. No aches or pains from driving nine hours so its still all good for me. I now have four digits on the odometer ;)

Family and I did one Gold Country Trip where we drove 250 miles each way up to Sutters Mill and the associated areas. No Problems. AC handed the heat fine. Averaged 21 mpg

Family and I did a Disneyland trip. 389 miles each way from Salinas to Anahiem. With large Cargo pod on the roof. Car performed great. No problems passing other SUVs going up and over the grapefine! :D Still averaged 21 mpg.

Seat comfort and comments from the other passengers were all very positive. The kids absolutely loved the twin DVD players we have.

The only thing that would have made it better would be to get 31 mpg vs the 21 mpg I got.;)

Hey,

Thanks for your experiences re: road trippin'. I'm planning a trip from Melbourne to Byron (1600kms one way) in July and will post a summary when I get back. I'm thinking of getting a luggage pod for that trip ! Now that's a whole new thread...
