So, I was driving home from Pembroke tonight and, on a lot of North Carolina roads, we have speed limits like 45, 55, 65, etc etc etc. Well, I was finding it hard to settle on my sweet spot a lot of the time (around 4 over).
So, I was curious -- there any way to get a sort of digital speedomoter hooked up? Just mere curiosity, really. Would be absolutely incredible if I could somehow get the readout to be the part of the panel where the ambient temp would be displayed (I have the sport model).
Any ideas? :)

Nothing is impossible, it all depends on how much information you get on the wiring for the CX-7. I have seen digital aftermarket gauges a while back, not on CX-7. You would need to find the speedometer wired from the ECU to tap into. As for on the panel, that is a lot of work to know how it receives the information to display.
My Speed3's Nav has a hack to where it will show speed on the GPS. It will not show on the map while moving, only a testing screen with the speed.

There are MANY aftermarket guages that reads from the 11-bit CAN Bus (OBD2). You can get digital read out from there. Or you can tap in to the speed sensor... but you'll need the workshop/wiring manual... and if you do get one... let me know.. cuz I need ECU pin diagram + Crank sensor wheel picture. :)

I just recommended this to another user in a separate thread for another use, but the dashhawk (I think it is made by MDS) offers this as an option. It basically plugs into the OBDII port and displays a ton of information that the ECU is monitoring already. Speed, boost, RPM, temp, etc., in addition to offering some other stats (0-60, 60-0, 1/4 mile, etc.) and some data logging capability.
