I believe this is the only thing that is missing from our cars. Does anyone know if its possible to get an aftermarket setup for blue tooth capability in our cars?

LOL it's not the only thing. iPod support is missing also (and NOT an adaptor).

Parrot is supposed to make a good bluetooth kit, but I have no direct experience.

I recently had a local stereo shop install the 3200 LS Color Bluetooth kit
from parrot into my CX-7. www.parrot.biz. The needed a special interface
harness because I have the bose system. They should have the install
completed in a few days. I will post with a review of the system as soon as
I fully test it. It is supposed to automatically load your phone book, voice tags and display any photos you have attached to contact info. It is full voice activated. There is one small microphone on top of my rearview mirror.
The callers voice is hear through you factory speakers and music is muted
when a call is made or received. I will have pics as well.
Robert.

The Parrot 3200 LS Color.

I have spent around a month with this unit. I wanted
to see how it performed in different environment and
how consistently it performed before I reviewed it.
The Good:
Overall, it is a great product. I had it installed for
$90.00 at a local stereo shop. Once the installer
finished, he told me to pair me phone with the unit.
My phone found the unit right away and promptly
proceeded with syncing up my address book and photos
attached to contacts automatically! It even transfers voice
tags for hands free calling. You can then record voice tags
to control the unit totally hands free. Voice control works better with the volume turned low or off on your stereo. The Parrot 3200 LS Color stores your phonebook with photos and voice tags and shows caller information and photo on it's LCD screen when a caller in you phonebook calls you. Performance is excellent! I have polled people I speak to often on my Sony Ericsson Bluetooth headset and they all say call quality is so much better. They said the can actually hear me. The Callers voice is played from the center and driver side dash speakers. Volume of callers voice is adjustable through the stereo volume, great feature for those whisper talkers. No more, "what did you say, I can't hear you!". You can adjust mic volume in the setting menu on the unit. The unit itself has a talk, end and center knob for navigating the menus and selecting your choices. The screen is bright and can be seen in direct California sunlight. There is an automatic answer feature you can turn on if desired.

The Bad:
There is not much to mention, but here it is.
Ocassionally, the unit fails to connect when the car is started. You must remember to turn off you bluetooth headset before starting you car, or the unit will not connect due to your phone's bluetooth channel already being in use. The Voice recognition is not always perfect.
Especially if your stereo is too loud or you have similar names recorded.

Overall, this is a great performing bluetooth solution for busy people who don't want to fumble for their headset every time they get a call. It has really helped me pay more attention to my driving in crazy Los Angeles Traffice.
Of course a factory integrated system would be preferred with call and caller info and contact photo displayed on the nav screen with touch controls for phone features, etc. Until then, the Parrot 3200 LS Color does a great job.
the also make a model with a built in gps receiver for those who have gps enabled phones or pda's.
Price: $169.00 from
www.mobilecityonline.com (New York)
Note: An adapter cable is needed to integrate the unit into our Mazda stereos
for those of us with the bose stereo system,
you need an adapter cable to properly integrate the unit with our stereo.
Price: $150.00
For Non Bose systems, the cost is $56.95
Both cables can be purchased form www.parrotkits.com/donotcut.html
The installer did not have to cut any wires, and no system functionality is
Lost. This is a great performing solution for those of us looking to get
Bluetooth into our vehicles. I hope you have made it through this long winded post
And I hope it was helpful.
www.parrot.biz for more product info.

Not sure what options are available in the US, but here in Japan, the navi system allows blue tooth compatibility for mobile phones. Just have to pair up and press the phone button to connect. You may want to look down that road if it is possible.

Not sure about the compatibility, but the CX-9 has bluetooth. I wonder if it is hooked up the same way as the japan ver of the CX-7 like stated above. If so, I wonder if a Nav system from a CX-9 would be able to replace the one in our CX-7's and then get the functionality.

Ther navi system in the CX-7 is a hard drive unit with touch screen and voice recognition. It allows for 2000 songs to be stored and has a single disc DVD/CD/MP3 player. There is an optional 100,000 yen extra called G-book which allows for internet connectivity (but not sure of the exact specs...yet). The screen also doubles up for the TV (1 seg analogue tuner standard - digital an option) and DVD as well as the reversing and side mirror cameras.

So far I have used the phone function without any problems and the voice recognition generally recognises my bad Japanese!! Very useful for me as I can just shout out the address rathe rthan navigating through kanji. I think it is a Panasonic unit but will have to check.

In the US we don't get all those fancy toys.

No bluetooth.
No Adaptive Cruise.
No Pre-Crash safety system.

The only digit display on our gauges just shows the odometer and the 2 trips.

Our nav is DVD based, but only works with the map discs. No TV, no DVD player, no HDD for storing songs.

Of course Europe doesn't get Nav at all, so I guess I should count my blessing.
