rear differential fluid

What is the fluid spec for the rear differential? My 28k mile service is coming due....

Your owners manual with vehicle or the on-line manual! Mobil 1 75/90 makes an excellent gear oil that I have used in many vehicles for 100s of thousands of miles without an issues. Last time I looked, Advanced Auto was selling it for ~ $9.xx per qiart but, then you only need to buy one quart.

There is nothing in the owners manual on the fluid spec . Hence my thread.

I just had my rear differential replaced at 25k. I'm assuming I wouldn't need to get this maintenance item done then at 28k. True?

the manual recommends the 1st change at 28,100 miles under the severe maintenance category. 25K is a little early but fine I'm sure.

Yeah.. but I guess what I'm saying is that I just had my differential changed under warranty. Do they change the fluid when they do that? Or do they somehow capture the old fluid and reuse it?

I called my dealer. 80w90 GL-5 fluid but they did not know the amount. Mogulman - does your service receipt specify the amount?

It says this:
2 0000-77-5W90-QT SAE 75W-90 PR 4x4 FA

Now that I think about it. I think they must have replaced all of it, because it says they found pieces of metal in the rear diff. fluid. Which is why they replaced the differential. Unless they would strain out the metal pieces which doesn't seem likely.

Owners manual: Section #10 Specifications. Differential & Transfer case requires a GL5 rated 80w90 gear oil.
