I believe that that the gauges are closely based to the Mazda MX-5's gauges, but as far as swapping them I wouldn't say it's compatible.

well everything is possibe..the only thing you would need to figure out first is if the shape of the 8's guage cluster is identical to the 7's....other than that it would plug in the same

The RX8 gauge pod's tach is meant for the Renesis 9000 rpm redline. I doubt the gauges would work. Remember the gauges are ECU controlled.

it would still be cool if it "looked" like it would spin to 9000

yes the guages are ecu controlled but you forget the design are the same.. the ecu just sends the signal..swapping in the rx-8 guages won't give you the 9k rpm range..honda guys and nissan guys have been doing this for a long time. it isn't anything new..it all matters on how you set the guage in your car. the info will read the same... or you might have to re run some wires in the back.. what you need to see is if the control lines are run exactly the saem.. like get the configurations of a rx-8 guage wiring set up and the try matching it with the one of the cx-7.. that way you can kind of figure what needs to be done to make it work

Considering that the wiring for many things in the CX-7 is different from the RX-8(wiring), I believe only the Mazda3/5 MX-5 gauges would work.

But would the gauge calibration be the same? For example, would 3000 rpm actually read as 3000 rpm on an RX8 cluster?

its possible that the calibration might be the same. the tachs look to match up pretty well, the rx8 just goes further.

The 07's are different in the gauge placement, this one looks more close in relation to the CX-7 I think it might have a problem with the whole start up limiter and whatever. The MPH is also digital... would be nice if it worked.

added 2004-2008 rx8 image. scale is diff on that. also, kind of sad that the 2009 dash only goes to 9k, because on the older 8s, the fuel cut was at around 9.5k rpm.

So does anyone know if the rx8 guages plug in the same aand if the guage pod will fit in the cx7 dash.

Nope, I wouldn't expect it to. Different ECU's entirely. You would have better luck with a Mazda3 Gauge cluster, even then fitting it isn't guaranteed. You can definitely switch out the faces though, they look to be almost exactly the same.

I came across these aswell..... They look sweet. Will they fit the 7 cluster?

They almost look like they will, the face of our gauges include the dimmer knob, maybe we can switch out the entire face of the cluster with the 3's.. but it's not going to be a direct swap out, if you look hard enough at both ours and the 3's you'll see why.

None of the Mazda 3 warning lights will line up properly to the CX7 gauges even assuming the diameter of the gauges fits. Also these ebay gauges are total rice IMO.

How are they ricey? Using rice to describe something you don't like really devalues the word.

Rice = mods that are cosmetic in nature and of questionable taste. Examples include big non-functional wings, body kits, neon lights, unnecessary gauges, etc.

Gauge face replacements are rice... that's so good to know.
And just about the only warning light that doesn't match the CX-7's is the 4WD one and that's not even a sure thing because the Axela hatchback has AWD.

Eh, I consider rice to be mods that couldn't pass as stock because they're either cheap or terrible in taste. I think if someone got those eBay gauges to work in the CX-7, it could easily pass as stock to me. It's not like they're that flashy or convey non-stock info (like boost gauges).
Anyhow, good luck to anyone who tries swapping gauges. I'm not interested myself, but I'm curious to see if it works.

Why are you even commenting on this thread, coming from someone who doesn't even have a
CX-7........Ouch!
Maybe different cultures, down here rice is more guys setting their cars up to look like a track car.
What you described here is sex spec., looks flashy, goes nowhere!

BLKCX7 - My comments were not CX7 specific. I agree. Different cultures. In the US, a classic example of rice is a Toyota Corolla with a big wing, body kit, and a big Autometer tach mounted on the dash with some neon lighting mounted under the car. Also there is usually some stick on graphics on the doors. Craptastic.
