Does anyone know if I will get better perfomance installing the K&N filter?

Not really that much better.. if you plan on keeping the stock airbox it's a good investment.

if you're keeping the stock airbox, then you could also do the resonator removal which allows more air into the airbox.

I've found that actually helps a little with reducing the initial lag on takeoff....but interestingly, not that much help at higher rpms. Definetely no worse except for extra noise!

It helped a little, but was nothing spectacular. Still better than stock.

My concern is that it is pulling hot engine compartment air. The stock convoluted intake is at least pulling cooler outside air in. Subaru CAI used to pull cold air from the wheel well at least. There was a rubber boot that kept the hot engine air out. I wish someone would come up with a system like Subaru has for my CX7

Very true. Plus, several intakes for sale here on the forum for less than 200 bucks. But the K&N is a good measure, but will not garner huge gains.

I have one in my car

Cant notice much. Removed the little baffle...still cannot notice much

but i dont want to TRY and feel anything like OMG MY K&N GAVE MY 20 HORSESPOWERS OFF THE LINES!!!...i just dont notice really

but i can hear the air flowing better...so thats cool...i just dont think it really helps anything...and ive been running it since RIGHT after the break in period...first thing i bought for my car. And tomorrow my AEM intake is showing up...so...maybe it was an unwise investment...oh well...made me feel better

Does the resonator have a purpose in life, I had a look at the weekend to remove it but thought that must be there for a reason?

Just to keep noise down.
