It seems that alot of people talk about TSB's and Recalls. Why dont we start a Topic just for TSB's and Recalls. The top thread should be a running list of all TSB data (the .pdf) so that people can print them and take them to the dealership for repair work. That seems to be the top item right now. Especially for new owners.

Can some you who have done the "Flash" for turbo lag report on the mileage you are now getting compared to previously?

Had flashed recently and didn't change the mileage. Turbo lag gone and shifts better afterwards.

Dmarsh -- can you post the TSB # for the turbo-lag? I'm picking up my new black cherry GT next week, and this is one thing I will want Mazda to correct right away....
Dealer is letting me drive a stripped loaner cx-7 (till mine comes in) and the turbo-lag is very noticeable

i picked up a CX-7 last Sat, checked the my Vin against the TSB on the lack of power. Today I went in to pick up a RX-8, and they told me to bring in the CX-7 because... and here is a good one.. "There is a thing from factory that slows down the CX-7, you need to bring it in ASAP so we can remove this safety feature from it. It will only take 30mins most, they just have to reprogram it"
I gave them the eye... and I said, "no, it's not a feature... but I did read about the Technical Bulletin about it".
They didn't say anything after that.
So thursday I'm taking in the CX7 for them to reflash.
midwest,
as far as I'm aware, all CX7s built in 2007 should already have this 'fix' from the factory...
At least that's what I understood from speaking to dealer, and reading the relevant TSB? (I think the TSB mentions build dates in 2006?)

Where do you check your VIN to find out if you need the firmware update???
The Vin number is located on the sill of the driver side door area.
Even though my CX-7 was beyond the TSB's listed VIN, it was still effected.. The car drove like ****. It hesitated, and it would search gears like crazy prior to my flash.
Right now, it's smooth, and it totally stop the gear search.

It is possible that the parking brake cable guide bracket may not meet design specification. It may bepossible for the parking break cable to shift out of position increasing the stroke of the parking break pedal. In worst case the guide bracket may be detached allowing the parking brake to be inoperative

Mileage about the same- maybe a little less (1/2 mpg) after the latest reflash. Maybe attributed to the car driving differently- I seem to be on the throttle more during low speed acceleration. The car did not respond as well when doing that before the flash. It's a good fix!

TSB: 01-043/07
MULTI-MODEL - VARIABLE VALVE TIMING NOISE WHEN STARTING ENGINE
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2007 Mazdaspeed3 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1BK******742222 (produced before April 1, 2007)
2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1 GG******109660 (produced before April 1, 2007)
2007 Mazda CX-7 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3ER******166945 (produced before April 1, 2007)
DESCRIPTION
When the engine is started, some vehicles may exhibit a loud ticking noise from the variable valve timing actuator at first start for a couple of seconds. This is caused by the lock pin of the variable valve timing actuator not fully engaging. Heat treatment has now been added around the hole of the variable valve timing rotor lock pin to prevent this from happening.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Replace the variable valve timing actuator after the engine cools down. Refer to Workshop Manual section 01-10.
3. Do an engine flush and replace the oil filter with a new one to remove dust and metal particles from the engine.
4. Verify repair.

04-25-2008, 06:25 PM
all of the tsb's you find here are for the US, but I have been printing off the required ones for my 7 and bringing them to my dealer, most often they do have the Canadian version on hand. The only thing that I have noticed is that if it is a fairly recently issued US TSB it normally takes the Canadian dealers a few months before they have it.
I'm sure Mazda Australia will say this TSB doesn't apply downunder....until months down the track!
I really can't see why these wouldn't apply...after all the only differences are the placement of the steering wheel. All other fundamentals are the same...engine, gearbox, drivetrain,

For this transfer case recall, is it a big issue? I took my car in the other day for the VVT bulletin, as my car sounded terrible when i started and then they told me my transfer case is cracked. They were going to fix it, but the kits are on back order. i am about to go on a long road trip and am concerned that i may have issues (as i am not that mechanically inclined) Should i be worried?
astraelraen
08-18-2008, 11:30 AM
If your transfer case is "cracked" I would be pretty worried depending on how fast its leaking.
I assume the fluid is under pretty high pressure in the transfer case. Mine was leaking when the bolt wasn't on tight enough. If there is a crack, I'm sure fluid is going to find its way out.
There is only a little over a quart of fluid in there, so depending on the rate of leak you could run out of fluid quickly.

MTOL - 5505 Dealer Repair Information
Symptom and Conditions
Vehicles equipped with DISI engines may experience a hot engine extended idle smoking out of the exhaust condition. This condition may also occur while driving in traffic at very slow speeds.
Repair Procedure
To correctly identify this concern have the tech drive the vehicle to insure it is fully warmed up a road test of 5 miles should be adequate.
Once the engine is fully warmed up allow it to idle for an extended period, this could take up to 30 minutes to produce any type of smoke from the exhaust. Once the smoking has started shut down the engine and perform a compression test and a cylinder leak down test. If both tests results are ok, have the tech remove the precat from the turbo outlet and inspect the exhaust impeller in the turbo for any signs of oil on or around the impeller. The removing of the cat should only be done with a cold engine. Quiz the tech as to the oil change history (time & mileage) what weight oil is being used during vehicle services on vehicles with DISI engines. If there is any sign of oil in the turbo, have the tech replace the turbo, and recheck using the same procedure to confirm the concern is gone.
Standard compression is 185PSI @ 250 RPM
Leak down less than 10%
DISI Engines require 5W30 weight oil.
I believe a service program recall may be coming out in winter or spring since they have determined how many affected units are out there.

The link to Rosenthal Mazda and the SB's on there are fantastic, the dealer wants to see what I have when I take my CX-7 in on Thursday this week for the fuel pump issue related to the engine, etc overheating and possibly the O2 sensor issue as well. I do have a bit of oil seeping from the bottom of the car the last time I changed the oil, not a big amount at all, but needs to be fixed.

Any one want to buy my CX-7? I am done with trying to deal with my local service people (Kramer Mazda, Calgary). I took it in early yesterday for an oil change and get the cracked transfer case fixed. Late afternoon they informed me that they were behind and that it would be a couple of more hours. When i did arrive to pick the car up i was told it was not complete yet. Then after waiting longer, i was told that the transmission seal was leaking and needed to be replaced as well, and they did not have parts, so they could not finish their warranty / service bulletin work. At this point, as it was 6pm, 3 hours later than the repair was suppose to be, one woudl think they woudl give you the keys to a car to get on your way, but no. They gave me a phone book with a recomondation for rental car places!! said they had no cars?? I can not be with out a vehicle. i am not going to continue with a company that can hold my car for periods of time and not think that there is anything wrong with that.

Unfortunately things happen. Would you have liked to have gotten the vehicle back with a leaking seal? Is it possible that the mechanic is doing a good job and didn't want the car going out with a bad seal? Unfortunately they did not have a seal in stock. Did they offer a loaner? I don't bad mouth that kind of stuff as life is too short.

I sent a email to Tommy at Finish line performance. It enven to him 2 days to find it.
the noise happened again on my car yesterday. I really don't think it's pinging. My experience of pinging in various cars is a higher-pitched sound. My car's noise is more like a metal banging on metal sound.
Lasted about 2 seconds on light throttle. Then a faint hissing noise continued for another couple of seconds.
Didn't seem to lose power...though it was already in its poor-performance mode. ie very down on power which happens everytime the engine is already warm and the AC is on.

That's not going to solve his problem, he's got something wrong with the O2 sensor, maybe the PCM, or the fuel pump.. but he doesn't seem motivated to make the dealer fix it.
