Was wondering if anyone uses an orbital polisher/waxer on their CX-7. If so, what brand/model are you using and what polish/wax do you use?
Also, how long after purchase should one wait to put the first coat of wax? I hand washed it today (first time since purchase a few weeks ago) and lo and behold I found 2 more long, unexplainable scratches. So I'm wondering what I'm going to have to do to get the light ones out and whether an orbital will be needed or if some elbow grease might do it.
Thanks.

I use a Craftsman orbital buffer to apply & remove wax. I use NuFinish paste wax. Not sure if it save much time but, is sure easer on my arm.

Do some searches to learn how it works and the accesories you can purchase.
While I have not bought one yet, this has been the standard answer for DIY car care folks for years.
As for waxes, etc - that is another discussion..many choices - but there are lots of better offerings that Turtle Wax and Armour All....
Adams, Meguiers, Mothers, Klasse, Menzerna

The orbital one I have is really only go for applying and buffing off wax. It just does not move enough to polish out any scratches.
I have a disk polisher I use if I need to polish out scratches etc.

was about to twrite the same thing.. and orbital just doesn't have the power of a disk polisher to get it to remove scrathces

I use a dewalt disc polisher as well and it has variable speeds...from 1000rpm to 3000rpm. I started with an orbital but like said from alpha wolf it isn't powerful enough to cut into your clear and get rid of swirls. you should really invest in a disc, you will want more out of your orbital in a couple months. you can find a cheap disc variable speed at most auto parts stores.
as far as how long to wait..if you bought it brand new you should still be fine to wax as soon as you get it home since it usually takes a manufacture a couple months to get them shipped transfered and on the lot ready to sell. you should wait 6 months after any kind of paint job. anything longer than that you should be fine.
I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend using Maguiers products. VERY good product for over the counter purchase. wax in perticular is maguiers "tech wax". VERY easy to apply and just as easy to take off which sometimes can be a pain depending on the product you are using. you should be applying/taking off your wax and polish by hand. I only use a disc polish while using a swirl remover or fine/medium cutt. I find that hand applying and taking off by hand give a better shine..IMO

oh and also while we are on the topic of details...use maguiers Tire shine "wet look" GEL NOT SPRAY!!!!!! the gel is applied with an applicator pad and will last for weeks in dry weather not days. BEST of all it doesn't spray and splatter all over the side of your vehicle like spray on does. after applying let sit for 5 minutes or so and then polish it with a pad to catch any unseen drips. This in my opinion will make or break the final look of a washed up vehicle.
