Wow, if Kia is in the top 10, where does GM, Ford, and Chrysler fall?

Now, I want to hear what those "Buy American" pundits have to say about this? No wonder the top 3 US makers are tanking! It won't be too long now...we'll soon see news stating that GM is now a subsidiary of Toyota!

Vince.

I didn't "dig" too far, but I'm under the impression from what I've briefly seen that this is a UK Study.

This is a UK study, and it's quite sloppy. They don't appear to adjust for model year, or for the length of the standard warranty. Guess what? In the UK both Mazda and Honda have much more generous warranties than Toyota.

I've posted my full critique here:

Yah, this is a UK study done by a warranty company. It is measuring major repairs in cars that are 3 to 9 years old. Mazda never ranks well with brand new models in consumer reports becasue from experience with 2 03 Mazda 6 models, my 06 Mazdaspeed 6 and my wife's CX-7, the first model years always seem to hit the market with a lot of bugs. By the second or third model year all of the bugs are worked out. They never seem to be major issues, but the way consumer reports measures things, there is no factor for the serverity of issues reported, only how many. Also Mazda doesn't seem as reluctant as some of the other makes to issue recalls, which again, in the CR ratings, counts as a strike against them. All I can say is all 4 of our Mazdas have had bugs, but no major problems. My two cars previous to that were Ford Probe GTs, which were essentially Mazdas with Ford sheet metal. Powertrain was the best thing in those cars (the manuals only!) because it was all Mazda. Now the automatic versions of the Probe GT, Mazda MX-6 and 626 were all prone to tranny problems. The tranny wasn't made by Mazda, it was a Ford EAT 4 (Electronic Automatic Transmission 4 Speed) unit, or as those with multiple occurrences of that tranny failing, it used to EAT $4k every time it broke. Moral of the story is overall, Mazda makes a good product. Especially the vehicles like the CX-7 that are made over in Japan. The two Mazda 6 models we had were built in Flat Rock, MI, and they were put together well, but just lacked the finishing touches and build quality that I see in My Mazdaspeed 6 (built in Japan).
