I did it yesterday and it makes since that removing an obstruction should help air flow and thus power.
As of yet though I have not had a chance to drive it so I cannot say if it made any real difference.

I saw the pic by pic instuctions to do this, nice photos!! I asked one of the Mazda techs at my work what were the cons of doing this.He said for one the check engine light comes on. I stopped him right there, is this true? I already have the TPMS light on all the time now, because of my wheel swap. By the way any fixes for this???

Your wheels should have been "TPMS ready". If not, there should be some way to attach the stock tpms units from your stock wheels. If that's not possible, you may just have to live with the light, or, take the bulb out, or, shut off tpms through the computer. That's my 2 cents.

I can only speak from my end.................................
Number 1 - When I bought new wheels we merely transferred the sending units (Valve Stems) over to the new wheels (at no additional charge). It didn't even require any re-calibration!!
BTW I did the same thing on my Crossfire.
Number 2. - I did this mod (I can hear the intake better-kewl) @2700 miles ago and have had NO PROBLEMS!!!!
BTW I did the same thing to my Turbo Beetle and it had @40K on it when sold!
Again, I can only speak from real world "Do-It-Yourself" Mods!!

FYI people.
I just removed the "Baffle" and curiously, i also removed what can only be descibed as a resonator chamber. The resonator was attached to the bottom of the airbox (never heard mention of this before), Benifit of doing this extra step is letting the motor breath through the snorkel that feeds from the grill and now, from the inner guard too (where the resonator chamber was).
Initial seat of the pants impression is that it "seems" to go a little better. However, my car does only have 500km on it so it may just be the motor loosening up.
In theory it should reduce a potential restriction in the snorkel setup (ive seen GA rally cars with less restriction) giving it better response/ top end.
Im not overly convinced though, as any gains would be marginal
Also, there really should be no reason why this would cause any sort of issue with the ECU ect.

I've been driving around with it off for around 4000 miles with no check engine light going off. Put it back on weds to bring it in for service. There's only a slight difference. And the filter looks like its getting dirtier faster than expected.

I removed the baffle and added a K&N filters a few days ago. I can't say I notice any power increase, but turbo lag is now more pronounced.
Maybe I didn't experience the lag before?? I'm sure removal of baffle and addition of filter has nothing to do with lag, just an observation.
I don't think my dealer has done a PCM upgrade for the lag issue, but will ask them next visit.
I'm hoping for better mileage with the better breathing.

Nice fine, but have no interest in doing it.
hi all
just wondering how to remove the resonator from under the airbox? I've done the baffle removal from inside the airbox.
thank you
