Guys I'm looking for the OEM navigation system and the rear view camera.
If anyone is interested on selling it to put an aftermarket unit , let me know.

It is a lot of work I think to install the OEM one. I know with the speed3, it is a factory or never option. Personally, you can get really nice setups aftermarket that are just as good, if not better than OEM. I know, as I have OEM nav in our cx-7 and Speed3.

If you want new, give the folks at Street Unit a call. He got us our all weather mats and rear tray, cheaper than anyone else. www.streetunit.com or 321-251-6124

I read on several places that the CX-7 is already pre-wired for nav and rear view camera. $4000 for the technology package is cheap in my opinion but it comes with things I don't need, I just need the Nav and Camera.

I don't need the 9 speakers Bose system, Moonroof, Advance keyless entry, and the alarm. The nav system / camera could be around $2000 if ordered alone. Maybe less used plus is OEM wich I like. :D

I haven't found a GOOD Double Din Ki for the CX-7 plus the Double din units the best ones cost more than $2500+ plus I have to add camera etc.

Since you folks are on the topic, I'm looking at purchasing CX-7 GT in the very near future. I've been sitting on the fence about whether or not to get the Nav package but am unsure, that's why i'm visiting here.

I rwally like it however, I've heard that there are OEM versions available but there's got to be some caveats to taking that stance.

1) Sure it's cheaper but more work with potential boneheads rumaging around amongst wires and whatnot behind the dash potentially causing all sorts of problems.
2) I thought the OEM version would not be integrated with the Bose stereo as it work via factory.
3 I'm canvassing actual users whether they like the nav system or if there's something better out there?

Thanks :o

Well, we got the GT with Tech Package, which it came with. The rear camera, completely keyless operation, the moonroof, the decent Bose stereo, and the NAV. We are happy with it, it works for us. It is DVD, and the updates are expensive. Ours is a year old, and some new places show up as dirt, grass, or water, when we get there.

Thanks Raider. Sounds like what I want as well. I've been a good boy for >20 years driving around in my little Chrylser Laser and Toyota Corolla. Time for more room, more luxury, whilst enjoying asome good ride. That's why I'm settling for the CX-7.

Uh, what do you mean the updates are expensive???

A new DVD is hundreds of dollars.

Holy cadudies!!! Sounds like a rip to me, but I guess if you want the toys you have to put out right?

So you recommend?

Thanks again

I like it, BUT one key feature is not there. iPod connectivity! Not available, period. Aftermarket is still in development.

For the Nav, you can get aftermarket Nav that is pretty slick, plays movies, MP3s, etc. Buy a rear door cam kit, you are in business. You will just be missing the other fun stuff.

Does it have the entire harness as well? There is more than just the head unit needed to get it to work.

I'm going to put in an aftermarket system. So when I get it installed, I'll have the guys take out the entire old system. I know there's the head unit, gps antennae, and DVD drive (under passenger seat). Whatever else is needed, I'll have taken out also.

Now I just need to find someone to sell it to.

I'm worried about an aftermarket Nav system not being compatible with the bose system so that, to me, is a biggy.

Also, I'm cynical about an aftermarket system's install profile. i.e. would it look like some hack job installed by some 17 yr old or a pro job that looks factory.

Important though is:
-Nav (GPS) etc (obviously)
-compatibility with stereo system
-I'd like iPOD connectivity
-I'd like DVD capabilities (why not watch Star Wars when the better half is in a store eh?)

Also, where would one buy a rear door cam kit? Remember, i've owned a Toyota corolla for the past 13 years, the last time I fooled around with this aftermarket stuff was with my 1975 Firebird.

Cheers

I think I saw a kit on ebay, and at Best Buy or Circuit City. As far as Bose compatibility, I am not sure on that.

No iPOD or DVD on the OEM system. As far as backup cameras. You can buy them almost anywhere. Various online dealers sell then, and your local car audio/video shops will have them. Whether aftermarket cameras work with the OEM system or not I'm not sure.

If you get an aftermarket system you have to bypass the OEM BOSE amplifier and run wires straight from the aftermarket head unit to the speakers.

As far as fit goes, you can get a double-din kit that fits the CX-7 that looks pretty good, in my opinion.

Yup. We are considering going aftermarket, so we can get the iPod to work with our Technology Package...

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. It's rough when you're ambivalent about toys isn't? I think I'll go with the cool sound system and pickup an aftermarket Nav. I'm pretty sure, however, that the 2008 comes with iPod connectivity though, but perhaps not if one has the Nav.

I just dropped into this thread by mistake, and lo and behold I find a bunch of Nav fanciers, and OEM vs. aftermarket etc...this is what I went through before I bought my GT w/out the Tech Package. Let's face it, it's expensive, comes with a crummy stereo w/out iPod integration now & forever, and it's unbelievably complex, heavy, and complex...oh yeah, I said that already, it's complex and who knows what could/will go wrong with it in the long term?

Enter Garmin, purveyors of the finest and highest rated Personal Navigation GPS systems on the earth. You can buy a Nuvi 660 for about $500 shipped and you never have to worry about updates (updater is your PC/Mac!...I check every other week, and there's often updates to download/install), or buying those damn DVD's that they rape you for...same with Honda, which is why I DIDN'T get the Tech Pckg...I already went through this with 1 vehicle and I'll be danged if I'd do it again...2006 Honda Pilot EXLN (EX, Leather, Navigation and everything else they built...$35,975 sticker priced Honda Pilot)... no no no...never again I told myself!

So that's what I did, I saved a TON of $$$ on the GT FWD (I'll never evar need 4WD in my CX-7 so why get it? It's heavy, it's a service item down the road, and it saps power 24/7...so I stuck with a FWD GT/Bose Stereo/Moon Roof/Preferred Equipt (bumper guard, parcel shelf, tie-down netting) Pckg,/Black Leather..that's it! Sticker price $28,910, purchased for $25,800+ fees. I'm happy.

I order the Nuvi 660 from Wal-Mart on sale for $594 (at the time an excellent price), free shipping, get the dash-mount kit from Garmin, and I'm in business for, get this, less than $26,500. Now you all know I've tricked out my CX-7 with wheels, tires, CAI, TMIC, TurboSmart BOV, but through thick and thin the Nuvi has been cookin' with gas, been updated, does traffic real-time with a $60 yearly subscription to the Clean Channel Traffic System, takes calls from my BTooth phone, plays MP3's via SD Card through my Bose stereo, and it's dead-on accurate with the maps updated every time there's an update through the PC/Mac (I have Macs).

Anyway, save yourselves a ton of $$ and get an AWD or FWD GT, your choice of colors/interiors, they all come with a 'Roof, leather, Pref. Package, etc, and just get a Nuvi 660, which will become your best friend, won't destroy your CX-7 getting installed, it's accurate, you don't have any DVD's to buy evar, you're all set.

That's what I did, and here's the current pricing on the Nuvi 660 via PriceGrabber.com:

http://electronics.pricegrabber.com/gps/m/26421082/search=nuvi%20660/sort_type=bottomline

Looks like the price has dropped to about $500 shipped; get the car kit from Garmin for about $50 and you're done.

Kindest regards,

I have a TomTom One, and its a very easy to use system, VERY pocketable.

I did not Know I was getting an AWD CX-7 and neither the dealer, and I could not live without it, Its really a good thing to have, I know what FWD would have been like, since we have a FWD Edge and it would have sapped all the fun going through puddles, or wet corners etc..

But if you want to save 2MPG then go for the FWD, but as Far as I'm concerned AWD is the way to go for the best traction, no comparison to FWD.

I would have gone for a Top of the line GT if my brain was at the dealer when I got mine, I was thinking of my dads pocketbook, they had stupid discounts at the time, Stupid move by me. But rest assured my next CX-7 will be top of the line.

I would have gotten the Tech too because I have no use for iPod adaption, my whole iTunes library is like 500 songs.

Just keep in mind, you need a hell of a lot more than just the headunit to get it to work.

I'm pretty sure I've settled on the Kenwood DNX7100, which is Garmin based Nav. I've heard Garmin controls ~65% of the Nav market and can understand why.

As for live traffic, I'm glad someone brought that topic up.

I thought it was only a sirrius or xm thing for 25/month. Not so? It's a separate little subscription for dollars/year? That'd go nice in Toronto during rusg hour. It's getting as bad as NY or parts of CA taking an hour to go across the city.
