View Full Version : Which tires came with your car?

Just wondering what tires you got. Reviews all say they come with Eagle RS that perform well. Mine came with bridgestone turanza EL42 which I feel are kinda crappy. I'm wondering if the higher trim levels give the better tires? Mine is a sport.

Also has anyone changed their brake pads yet? I'm wondering if they put on high performance ones to get such good braking. In which case I have to check more often for wear since those don't last long. If they're typical, does that mean you can get even BETTER braking with a upgraded pad? thats a cheap upgrade

Goodyear Eagle RS-A.
Haven't been able to work out what determines which tires get fitted to each car. Anyone know?

Got the Goodyear RSA and so far, I love it although I am contemplating of getting Yokohama Geolandar HT II 275-45R/20 which sells for $113 each.

I think the US versions all get the Bridgestones while the other countries get the Good Years. The interesting thing is last I looked the Bridgestone's and all of the tires that are in the stock size didn't rate very well with customers over at Tire Rack based on serveys. I find the Bridgestones OK but a little loud. They may actually be louder than the performance tires on my Speed 6!

Looking at Radiant CX-7's pics I see he has bridgestones and he's an aussie.

I think possibly the earlier models have goodyears and they switched over to bridgestones.

I was driving home last week in the rain, made a turn at the light and felt the rear slide out. Must've been really slippery crosswalk paint

They also seem to lose air faster, but NY has been having crazy climate changes.

Wow, that is just odd. Maybe Mazda just used whatever they had lying around on a particular day. Oh well, the Turanza and the RS-A are both equally mediocre tires.....

My dealer gave me the warranty pack for both said he didn’t know which boots it would have on. But was sure it would be one of them. Doesn’t seem to indicate a reason why you would get one and not the other. Guess it’s what’s on sale the day the order is place at the factory lol .

Has anyone tried on both and has an opinion on which is the better tire?

Ok here's my theory, at the plant in japan, there's two assembly lines pumping out cx-7's. For some reason one line gets bridgestones and the other gets goodyears.

Good Year RS-A on my GT.....But my dealer has Sports that have the RS-A on them too..I asked him what the deal was, and he said, it just depended upon what the factory was using that day...The Bridgestones are a Jap. tire, and the Goodyear, and american tire...

Hello all

I recently purchased a 2007 CX-7 Sport with Goodyear eagle tires. I am in
Southern California. I did notice that there were two different tires being offered at the time of purchase. I already run Goodyear eagles on my Vette and Lightning. They are much better tires than the ones offered from Bridgestones.

Just seems like you cant win no matter what brand of tires you buy. I had goodyears on two previous cars (jeep grand cherokkee & eagle talon) both showed wear indicators before reaching 15000.

I have the Bridgestone tires on my CX-7 as well, they are crap! I currently have 12,278kms (Canada) on my car and garages have told me that they will not put these tires back on my car in the spring, as it will make my car unsafe. I have been going back and forth between Bridgestone and Mazda, both state there is premature wear on my tire, but both blame the other. Does anyone have a suggestion!!?

Raider

How often did you rotate your tires? How often was tire pressure checked? We got 17K miles on ours, fronts went bald due to lack of rotation.

Over-inflated and under-inflated tires can also be a problem. Is there wear in the center mostly, or on the outer and inner sides?

And what shops are you taking your car to? You mention spring, did you get winter wheels and tires?

islandcx7

I am in the same boat, let me know what course you are taking, my dealer says to contact Mazda Canada, but I am unsure of where that will get me. I got 12,282km out of my brdigestones.

why would the TCS/DSC systems increase wear on tyres? I would have thought that these systems reduced wheelspin (which is what increases tyre wear).

Of course, the normal processes of cornering would also cause tyre wear, but I still think reducing wheelspin on acceleration, via TCS, would reduce tyre wear.

On a side note...I wonder if ABS theoretically reduces tyre wear?

cheers

Well of course the CX-7 will chew through tires very fast due to the extra weight, I would expect 30,000 miles out of a good set of tires.

Theoreticly, if you we're to experience lots of lock up from slamming on the brakes, braking through turns, etc.. that would chew through the tires fast(not to mention the spin out that would follow very shortly after), without ABS, with you wouldn't have these problems.

The car has been in for two scheduled maintenance checks. The first one was in April of this year and everything was fine. It was in for it's second maintenance check in August and they rotated and realigned the tires for uneven tread wear. Last week I had winter tires put on the car (Blizzak) also a Bridgestone tire (hoping that wasn't a mistake) and the car was out of alignment again. This is when I discovered that the tires were worn and that the outside edges of the front tires were worn smoother then the rest. I periodically check the tire pressure since I have had cars with this issue before and did not have that issue with this car. The Bridgestone dealer I went to said there was premature wear on these tires, they said that they would pass an inspection but that they would make the car unsafe, I have already experienced hydroplaning and tire slippage when on wet pavement. Hope this helps, let me know if you need more information. Thanks for replying.

Raider

Well, as long as you went through the dealer to get the alignment fixed, then you have a case. Most cars do need an alignment over time anyway, but the alignment, not the tires, cause the problem.

The good thing is, there are WAY better tires than what come on our cars. Next spring, look to get an upgrade. We bought Yokohama Parada Spec X tires for ours, and love them. Sticky in the rain, and quiet too.

Bottom line, keep an eye on the tires, and make sure the alignment is resolved. Dealers will not really do much to help if you went to a shop other then the dealer to do an alignment.

To islandcx7, I have contacted Mazda Canada for the second time now and faxed them the documentation from my Mazda Dealer regarding the whell alignments performed on my cx7 in the last three months. I don't know what will happen now I am waithing for them to look into it. You may want to start some documentation on your mileage and visit a local Bridgestone dealer to get treadwear information on your tires (what is your current treadwear). I will keep you updated on what they are telling me. What province are you residing in?

I live in Newfoundland, and have found that the local dealer would rather not deal with me. They told me to contact Mazda Canada and that they would be the only ones who could do anything in regards to the tires. I get the feeling though that they would rather push it to Bridegstone. I have also contacted Bridgestone and they seem to be interested in what is happening with the tires. The person who I have been in contact with there is Dana Martorano email address dmartoano@bfrc.com. You may want to contact them if for nothing else to see where you can find a dealer near you.

Raider

The bottom line is, it is not the tires fault if your allignment is off causing it to wear on the outer edge. That needs to be the focus for the tire wear.

Hey Island CX-7, just wanted to let you know that if you haven't contacted Mazda Canada about your tires you should. I just got a call today from them regarding my tires and they are going to replace my tires. They have decided that the wear on my tires is excessive and they are replacing sll the tires. I have to contact my dealer on monday to find out when I have to pick them up and whether or not they want the old ones back. Thanks to raider for giving me the heads up on some of the info. Hope you get your tires.

The bridgestone's wear WAY too fast. Funny thing is that they're rated as 300+ treadwear, A, A. so it's not like they're performance tires that you would expect to have a softer compound. Zero cross tread on mine at 15,000 miles. Still a good amount of rubber, but without the cross tread, I am a little more careful in the rain. '07 sport 2WD BTW...

I also have the Bridgestone's on my 08 AWD. Even before reading these posts I lost confidence in them when I slid and the ABS kicked in while only going less than 5km/hr on a slushy roadway. Already looking at replacing them w/ winters for next year seeing as most of the dealers around here have sold out of their stock and I'll be looking at new All seasons this summer as well.

I got the Bridgestones on my 07 GT. They are very slick driving up here in the Wisconsin ice and snow. You really have to think about your moves and how hard you press on the gas pedal. I see the traction control light blinking alot!! Asked my dealer about them and he said that Mazda had complaints and they were going to switch soon to a better all season tire.

yea i have the worthless goodyear rsa-s on my car

got 19,500 miles out of them...with the last 5000 miles being pretty interesting in the rain...haha

its kinda fun in the rain going around slight bends at about 30-40 mph in 3rd or 4th gear and hittin the gas...i could turn the wheel back and forth as much as i like...haha

pretty cool how the stability control...although annoying on most occasions...keeps me from dying on a pretty regular basis...even with ****ty tires

thinking about getting those General Tire Grabber UHP's in 255/55/18's

My 2008 CX-7 GT AWD came with the Bridgestones. Purchased this week. From the forum posts here and Tire Rack I'm anxious about seeing how (poorly?) these tires perform and last.

EDIT: Without looking earlier and knowing they were Bridgestones, I thought they were the Turanzas but it turns out they are the Dueller H/L 400s.

I have the Bridgestones. Touring, 2007, FWD, US-version.

People say they're crappy but I haven't noticed anything deficient about them. Can't wait to see what the next set of tires feels like to compare, but that might be a while -- my tires still look great after 25k miles. Makes me wonder how rough some of you folks drive, yikes.

2008 GT AWD Purchased October 23-2008

Came with GoodYear RS-A 235/60-18. I'm am some what relieved by having the GoodYears as there was a similar dual manufacturer issue when I purchased my 2005 RX8.

That scenario had the Bridgestone Potenza on some Rx8's and the Dunlop Sport on others. Again I was fortunate I believe to have received my RX8 with the Dunlops. Although accounting for snow tire switch overs, my Dunlops passed Auto VIN inspection after four years and 45,000km+.

Summary: I have never had them on any of my vehicles however I am very suspicious of Bridgestone quality.

I got these POS on my '09 GT AWD. Hitting breaks at 85 or above makes my steering wheel shake, horible when cornering, crap in snow, and there is a chance they are part of the reason the world is in a recession right now.

Can't wait to replace these junk tires.
