Had a reprogram done last week and there is a noticeable change for the better in that the tranny doesn't keep shifting back and forth from 6th to 5th and back to 6th so frequently.:)

HOWEVER, this now presents a new problem in that while the shifting is smoother, it now seems to lag in 4th gear for a longer period of time than I think it should.

Has anyone else experienced this particular problem?

My service manager said that the reason it lingers in 4th gear is to clear the excess emissions in the catalytic converter by keeping it in gear and getting the exhaust gases hotter thereby leaving less emissions.

There are too many arguments in my mind that says it is a bunch of B/S.
I would like someone more technically versed than I to comment if possible.

Thanks

I don't know if thats true or false, but it's pretty impressive that he can make up something like that on the spot as a lie.

How high do the rpms get in 4th gear before shifting? I actually do the same thing when in manual. I use boost from 4th gear to get to 6th gear faster since with NYC traffic you gotta merge onto the highway pretty agressively.

We have longish drives between stoplights or stop signs, and so rather than wait for the automatic to shift, I manually shift from 3rd, to 4th, to 5th and sometimes even to 6th.

That's the difference between Queens Blvd. and country roads.:)

But I will check to see at what rpm's it does shift.

Thanks for your follow up.
