I had my 1st scheduled service done Tuesday, and complained about a lack of power at lower RPMs, and my Service Adviser suggested that since the CX-7 was in for its 1st oil change (1289 miles in 3 months...I don't drive a lot), that he'd have the technician check things out for me. Now, reading from the service order it says: "Customer states hesitation when accelerating below approximately 2000RPM...Check TSB for REFLASH."

Then "Cause: Control Module Open for Reprogram for Concern"
Then "Correction: Reprogrammed Control Module W/Later Calibration for Hesitation Concern....OPERATION XX8489FX"
Then: "Fault Code 08; Diagnosis 9F"
Then: "FP-555506036A"

At that point the invoice reverted to my complaint about the "slow shifting @ full throttle" and the technician found that my transmission was operating in "Normal Shifting Operation" mode, and that I had no reason to be concerned.

So now my CX-7 has Quaker "Q" Full Synthetic Oil in it, and a new filter, and it's had its ECU Module reprogrammed to take care of the "hesitation" that I was experiencing.

And my Lord, did it take care of the hesitation problem! It's noticeably much more responsive at low throttle push, and it seems to be a lot faster from 0-30MPH!

I was also surprised to find out that a full oil change with filter takes 6 (SIX) Quarts of oil!! Wow! That's a huge amount of oil for a little 2.3L DISI Turbo motor. I guess Mazda really is providing for extra oil for the engine's many capabilities, especially Turbo Cooling. My service advisor also explained to me that the oil pan has a heavy "baffle" inside it to prevent oil starvation during "spirited driving"....another nice surprise to find out about the engine.

Anyway, I was very pleased with all the time, trouble, and energy the service department took to diagnose, recalibrate, and repair my CX-7's problem(s). Up to now I'm giving Mazda Service a "10" for quality work, and effort. My Service Advisor also called me today, out of the blue, to check and make sure that I was happy with the results of the "flash to the ECU Module and its reprogramming", and I told him I was ecstatic over the CX-7's performance now that it didn't hesitate any more.

I've also receive two online surverys from Mazda.com in regard to my CX-7, so they appear to be genuinely concerned with the new vehicle's ownership experience. I am impressed with the company, Mazda, so far. Great stuff!

Kindest regards,

Well, sounds like you are more than pleased with the Mazda service.
I have two questions.
1- have you had the dreaded CEL and if so what was done about it.?
2- Do you notice the length of time that it now remains in 4th gear before it upshifts, and has this changed?

Please keep us posted.

Thanks
