Hi,
I have a CX7 with 5000 miles. I have the CEL problem, which is intermitten. No big deal, I'll get the gas cap replaced. BUT....I have this annoying vibration/rattle from the rear end while cruising on the interstate at 55+ mph. I though it was the liscense plate, but I screwed it down really tight.
Anyone else having this problem???? It's really annoying me!

I also have a rattle that seems to come from the back right of the vehicle when i am up above 55. i had them look at it when i took it in but they could not reproduce the problem. I will have to ride with them next week and show them what i am talking about.

I know what it is. It is the privacy cover piece that you pull over the trunk space. When not unrolled, it makes a rattling noise that is like torture on a long drive.

I hadn't thought of that. I'll try it and see what happens.

Could also be the tire and jack assembly in the hatch floor, as well. Mine was loose on the speed 6 and once re tightened down all was good again.

Ok, I'll check it too.
Thanks!

Hello all,
I had this very same problem.I found it to be the bumper's outer shell rattling against the bumper's interior. It was an easy fix but the dealerships have no clue unless an SB has been issued and they may not be aware of that either.
Anyhoo it boils down to the retaining clips that are used to attach the plastic bumper cover to the bumper assembly. Just remove the clips and apply some foam tape to each spot to create a barrier between the two parts and will keep the clips nice and snug.
My dealership was kind enough to do this for me after I grabbed them by the back of the neck and showed them how loose the panel was.
The way the plastic hangs below the bumper causes it to act like a scoop and begins to oscillate at speed. It drove me nuts!!
I hope this helps.....

good to know, I wonder if that is the issue.
just found this and thanks for the tip scratchbuilt. I'm getting the same exact noise and took apart my whole back spare / tire assembly in the process to debug to no avail. I'll check this over the weekend.

What I did was gently push up on the bumper/metal attachment points to slightly bend the bracket up . I only moved it a few mm's. But that's all it took to make the connection between the bumper and attachment points tight.
I did not remove any clips or the pins. just gently pushed the assembly up a wee bit.

My noise was the license plate. I pushed a piece of foam between the plate and door. I tried the screws and no amount of tightening helped.

I always put the soft part of velcrow (the fuzzy part) and stick it to the inside of the license plate. That keeps it from rattling. Also, remove the dealer plate trim pieces. I hate advertizing, and they look like crap.
Simple and clean.

The dealership license plate trim pieces are made of really cheap material, very flexible, and they can create their very own special rattling sound that is really annoying, and hard to pin down: solution? Remove them.
I got a pair of the very heavy chrome steel "CX-7" license plate frames, or rather my salesman gave them to me, and they look very snazzy, and cool, and don't rattle one small bit. They're made to hold the license itself in little clips, very snug, and they protect your paint from getting scratched by the plate in the rear.
Kindest regards,

Hello, I also have the back noise rattling and is really annoying on vibrating surfaces, I dont have the cargo cover so thats not making the noise. Also I dont think is the license plate because the sound clearly is in the back right side of the car.
someone knows whats making the rattle?

Can someone post a photo of the plastic clips in question? :)
I don't know if I have the problem because I normally have my music blasting. :D But I guess it doesn't hurt to lower the volume before I go deaf and listen to the car itself.

Get on your back and slide under the rear bumper. Look up, there will be 2 metal supports and associated plastic clips holding on the lower bumper cover. All you do is just slightly push up on the metal support brackets and this tightens the gap between the plastic bumper clips.
Now go turn that music up !!!

What did you say? Speak up! I'm a little hard of hearing. :D
Anyhow... Thanks! Something to keep in mind if there is a problem.

I now too have a very annoying rattle in the back, and it is getting worse. It seems to be from the privacy cover, but I can only get it to do it at freeway speeds with the constant vibration of the road. Also, my cover is always pulled out, so it is nota case of the flap vibrating against the bar. Anyone else dealing with this? Is it a bad cover?
Thanks

I took the CX-7 to the service and they couldn´t solve the rattle noise, they mentioned something about the suspension and that they tighten it. But I continue to listen de noise in the back right side of the car.
I haven´t tried the the bumper.

I have the same issue and have never been able to isolate it. I think it started at about 10k miles or so...

Bending the retention clips up on the lower support part of the rear bumper solved mine.

I posted this on another forum. I had this issue. I took apart the back of my cx-7 and sat in the trunk of my car while someone drove. It ends up it was the rear bumper rattling. I have a hitch too. Not sure if that contributed to it. If I lightly kick the back bumper it made the same noise.
I told the dealer and they tightened something up in the rear bumper. The noise was driving me crazy for a few months.

Take care,
