Well, the Japanese engineer they flew in reprogrammed my computer. No more stumbles for now, and the turbo lag is much less pronounced. They are supposed to offer it up to all owners next week. If you have a hint of problems like this, call Mazda.

The good news is they fixed the stumble. The bad news is I still get 14 in town and 16 on the highway. That's worse than the hemi powered Durango I traded. I'm done with this. Good luck to all you CX-7 owners. I hope to be an ex-owner soon.

How many miles do you have on it? Your mileage will increase as the engine is broken in.

I've got 3800 miles on it and it's gotten worse instead of better.

That's not even close to when the mileage will level off. You should not begin to judge the mileage until over 10,000 miles. On my current vehicle, I noticed an increase all the way to 45,000 miles.

it would have to improve DRAMATICALLY. 16 mpg highway is pathetic. I'm in mediation with Mazda now.

First tank average was 21MPG, second and third were also 21MPG.
From day one............... Pedal to the floor for a short and varied RPMs!
Break them in fast-they run fast!
I drive @40 miles one way to work with 10 to 65 mile per hour speeds. Top speed (so far) has been 110 MPH.
I do run the "93" octane and it has never (only 1150 miles) missed a beat.
My 3 hatch got an average of 27.5 on regular, so the difference is not that different taking into consideration of what we have.

If I was getting your mileage...I would get rid of it too. My CX-7 started at 17.4 mpg and has been going up as miles accumulate. I now have over 2k miles. I would make them give you a different car or do a buyback. That's not normal!!!

Don't take offense.....................................
but, how do you drive the car??
If your foot is on the back of the front license plate all the time then the mileage is probably on par.
A TURBO engine consumes a lot of fuel when "spinning and pumping"......

I don't have a lead foot. Even if I did, 13 city, 18 hwy is NOT normal. I spoke with the customer mediation rep on Friday who told me he was going to send a rep out in two weeks. He suggested I was miscalculating mileage. I told him that was BS, end of conversation....callled the dealer and he told me to bring it in today (monday). When I arrived, there was yet another Japanese rep they had flown in. He drove 91 miles in 7 hours after first filling up my car and determining that I had gotten 17.8 mpg on my HIGHWAY trip over the weekend. He determined that his 91 mile trip got 25 mpg, but there was no equipment to verify, just his calculation. Mazda flew a guy in here just to get bogus testing. My dealer was stunned. I'm done with these idiots and my dealer is going to get me an Infiniti FX 35---which I should have done in the first place.

I must say I'm very impressed. Anyone that can convince an automobile manufacturer to fly out an engineer from their home country (Japan) to help a customer in the US speaks volumes on Mazda's customer service. It's a shame they haven't solved your issue. I guess you got a lemon.
For me, my CX-7 now has over 5K miles and I'm getting between 18-20 city and 23-25 on the highway. This is being accomplished in Metro Atlanta traffic which, next to LA and Houston, is one of the worst.

I don't have mine yet but I have owned several new cars and in my experience,
mileage after 10K isn't much different than when new. Maybe a couple of mpg.
Your mileage is more dependent on where and how you drive.
All start and stop city traffic to and from work.
Gonna be ugly.
Mostly freeway at 65-70 on cruize, you may find happiness.

This thread is ancient history, before all the reflashes from the dealer were made available.
