Just give the car its first clean. Spotted a few more scratches than I had at the dealership :(.

Anyway back on topic having never had any Chrome parts on my previous cars I noticed the polish I was using didnt really bring up the chrome parts as I would have liked. Does anyone have a recommendation for cleaning these parts?

Cheers

I'd be interested in what people recomend. I've never had chrome before either.

for the CX7 i just use a Chrome polisher/cleaner on the 2 tailpipes... it never fails in maintaining the luster, it also removes some of the black soot on the lower edge of the pipes ;)

I had no idea how to care for chrome either as this is my first car with any.

I used nevr-dull last week and was very pleased with the results. The black (and any other imperfections) came right off with minimal effort. I just suggest you wear a glove as the product has a strong smell. I buffed it with a clean lint free cloth afterwards. They look good as new.

I used dawn dish washing soap for the initatial wash, then simply used windex window cleaner. My wheel maintenance brochure actually stated this one. I laugh at first but it works! its fast and economical. It also said about avoiding any acid based wheel cleaner which is common on wheel cleaners.

please tell me the dawn is not being usedon the paint. It will leave a film on it, and it is not the best. use a car coap, designed for car paint. Trust me.

Dawn will also strip all of the wax off completely. In fact in the shark fin install instructions they say to use dawn to remove the wax so the foam adhesive will stick.

Good to know! I prefer to keep the wax on the paint. I use Meguires Car wash. Works well.

We are talking about cleaning the wheels not the body :)

whew!!! We did not even have chrome wheels as an option. I would still go with a high end wheel cleaner. I use Meguires wheel cleaner, works great.

If you've seen my wheel/tire package, with 20-spoke chrome "C-2" by C-Squared 22"x9" wheels, you know that I spend an hour or two every week maintaining my chrome wheels, and I wholeheartedly agree that the only product worth mentioning in terms of a true, chrome-only polish/cleaner/restorer is Mother's Chrome Polish, which comes in a small red plastic bottle. I believe it's only 8 ounces, but a little goes a long, long way.:)

I've done my wheels twice since new, a full cleaning with Harley's wash compound (the blue stuff from Pep boys/Target etc), and then go after the chrome with the Mother's product. It goes on really easily, dries almost instantly, and can easily be wiped off with the proper sort of cotton towels that one reserves for chrome, and sensitive paint surfaces like my Crystal Pearl White CX-7. Of course I also use the Mother's Polish on my door handles, and the tail pipes, removing that nasty black soot that accumulates there.

Anyway, Mother's Chrome Polish is the only way to go, and it gets a "10" from this owner/user.;)

Kindest regards,

I just tried the Turtle wax ICE spray detailer on my car this weekend. It is amazing stuff. It really made the car shine. It works great on the chrome trim, black trim and the paint.

It didn't try it on the tailpipes and I don't have chrome wheels.

Just make sure you get the spray detailer, there is also a spray wax, which might be good but I haven't tried that one.

I'm a big fan of Klasse All-In-One cleaner/polish and their High Gloss Sealant Glaze. I used it on the chrome trim and it came out perfect. It's a great product, won't stain plastic trim and is phenomenal on clear plastics (headlights/taillights). On the tailpipes I use Never Dull and it's great at maintaining a sheen and cleaning exhaust residue.

I've used Mothers for the last 5 years. It works really well on Chrome/SS. I use it to clean exhaust tips and all chrome parts on my cars. It restores rather well too.
