Hey everyone. I am new to the forum and new to Mazda. Just bought a CX-7 today. I got the touring edition without the tech package. Naturally, after having it for only 4 hours, I already want to know how to add Nav, and some of the consequences of doing so. So here are my questions:

- if an aftermarket Nav system is installed, what happens to the seperate information display on the dash that shows the time and station, etc? Does it become useless?

- for those of you that have factory Nav - what does this information display do now?

- any updates on double din kits?

- any word on where to buy factory nav?

- any way I can add the digital climate control and ambient temperature display?

Thats pretty much all I can think of right now... :)

A note to all. I have an AVIC-D3 in my other car and I love it. I am considering putting it into the CX-7, but would rather go with OEM (if possible).

#1, if you do not have the tech package, don't bother with OEM, as it will not work. www.mcx7.com/showthread.php?t=516

I am not sure about how the other display would work out with an aftermarket. I am thinking there is a way for it to work, just connecting to the new radio. As for the clock, and climate control status, I am unsure as well.

I know of 1 person with a cx-9 and an aftermarket HU. I will bug him to see what his is like.

Well, if OEM can't be done, looks like I will go aftermarket.

Anyone know how I can get the information display on the dash to still work with an aftermarket radio?

Also - anyone experiment with adding the digital climate control to the standard climate control vehicle?

No go on the top part still working. At least on his cx-9. Someone has to have a new HU installed...

I just ordered the Eclipse AVN5510 double din navigation/dvd unit for my CX7. According to a rep from Scosche, the unit will be in production in 30-45 days. Go to "Email from Scosche" topic. I will definitely go with aftermarket nav then factory. It is cheaper and much better. I don't know if the display on the top screen of the dash will still work after putting an aftermarket unit, but I do know that the steering wheel controls will work only with a steering wheel control interface.

So I think right now we need to answer the information display question. If anyone knows of a way or an adapter to get that to work, that would be great. I would hate for it to become useless...

Well my friend has a mazda 6 with an aftermarket stereo and the display read Mazda after he installed his dvd player. The only thing he can really do with the display up top is change the message from saying Mazda. Probably will be the same with the CX-7 and aftermarket stereo.
