I've noticed now that the weather is a little cooler in the morning
that after starting the engine light comes on and stays on most of the day until it is warmed up I guess
It is also a little sluggish in the cold aswell
anyone else experiencing this?

Ive only had mine a week and a half, and one morning it was in the low 20's, but no check engine lights here.
I would get it to a dealer and have them check it out.
Let us know what they find.
Thanks,
Wayne

Are you sure it is the "check" engine light or is it the tire pressure light? When it has been cooler my low tire pressure light came on and would stay on for a short while until the tire pressure went up after some highway driving. Of course I checked and increased the tire pressure and haven't had the problem since. I haven't had any sluggishness in cool weather.

I have just been driving my Cx-7 for only two days and the "check the engine light" came on. I contacted the Dealership and they believe it to be the fuel filling cap. Has anyone there experienced the same problem?
Thank you!

Yes, this is a common problem with Mazdas. My wife had a 2004 Mazda6 with the same issue. Except her Mazda6 gas cap bit it at about 32k miles, and right during my state safety/emissions test... :D Mazda flashed the computer and gave me a new gas cap. It took about 40 mintues. I am assuming the caps are the same across the board on all the Mazda cars.

Thank you! I will be taking mine to the Dealership and posting the outcome...Other than that, it feels great driving it!

Update: engine light was still coming on in temp between 1 to -2 degrees celcius
now that it's colder -5ish -- no engine light and the vehicle runs fine??

Can anyone tell me about the engine light coming on in the CX-7 and if they fixed your car what was the problem? I have had this occur for months now, they claimed they fixed it twice before and then the final time it came back on the car was stalling like the gas was not getting in to it.They now have had my car for two weeks and still have no answer's.
Help please!!!!

gas cap was the reason they gave me twice
I think there are some other reasons in the "recall thread"
something to do with the turbo

Had our car less than 2 weeks when the "check engine light" came on. Dealer said that the gas cap did not get a seal..replaced gas cap. Light came on again 2 weeks later. dealer said that they had to make an adjustment in the turbo system. 2 weeks later..back on. Been at dealer 4 days..picked up tonight but don't know exactly what they replced this time

I live in Nj, and my CEL came on first week of driving the car (Mid-Nov), dealer replaced the gas cap and we were all good up until last week, when the cold weather finally moved in. Now the CEL is on and off for the past 7 days. Obviously this time the CEL has nothing to do with the gas cap...but what worries me is that when started w/ remote start system, the CEL doesn't always come on, but normal starting (key) the CEL (90% of the time) comes on.. I'm thinking this is may be an ignition problem, anyone care to speculate?
1800 miles and already two trips to dealer for CEL; doesn't bode well for me buying another mazda after this one, although driving the car is fun and pleasant, these trips to dealer have got to stop, esp when they are usually clueless

I replied to you in the other thread :)
I have a little more than 1,800 miles on the car too and have had no CEL problems (knock on wood). Though for us, it just hasn't been real cold here. We only had a couple of cold days back the beginning of december and I didn't even have 500 miles on the car yet.
Will be interesting to see over the next few days since it's supposed to get real cold now.

Just brought mine in for the third time with check engine light
First it was the gas cap and last week the swirl actuator. After 5k service I also had the tire pressure warning light up on cold mornings (-10C). It didn't come on before in colder weather....
Two days after that the check engine light came on again. Now they tell me they're installing a "revised" actuator. We'll find out tomorrow....

I had my cx-7 over a month and the check engine light came on so I took it to the dealership and they said it was the gas cap like many of you have mentioned. After a day the light came back on so I took it back in. When I came in the mechanic said he would have the "service manager" tell me what was wrong because he could explain it better, in a way I would understand. Which right away made it seem like they thought I was stupid or something. He said with no part names or anything, which was annoying, that there is a whole that was two small for the part that has to go through it and they basically made it bigger. He said it was affected by the cold and being in wisconsin it had been below 20 degrees for about a week or so. He also said it is a common problem with the car and there was no recall yet but they thought there would be a recall soon. Sorry I don't know what the parts are but I hope it helps

I called my mazda dealer last week to check for any update and they told me that there is a known problem where the check engine light is on when it is cold outside. They told me to pass for a fix (look's like they need to reprogram something).
It seems like a know bug because they found that 'recall' based on my car serial number.
They also told me to let the engine warm for 2-3 min when it's really cold.
Right now we are getting -25c (-40c with wind factor which is under 0 in F) and still no check engine light... Engine is a little noiser with the cold...

We are on CEL #3 within 600 miles of ownership  Gas cap, P2006 code and now a third one for some sensor.

Okay, first CEL; 250 miles... Gas Cap.
Now we have 5000 miles and the CEL is on again.
This is very frustrating. Who wants to take time to go to the dealership every 2 months to have it fixed.
By the way, does anyone know of any service bulletins I should have worked on while they have my car again?

Tell me about it! At least I'm without CEL now, let's see how long it lasts...
I also had the new door sill rubbers (service bulletin 09-044/06) added. More info on that somewhere in this forum.
Keep hoping for the best :)

The code P2006 refers to the IMRC valve not working properly(gets stuck). This part affects cold weather startups and low rpm engine performance which is why its coming on more in the cold weather. The solution is to drill or widen the holes in it and remount it. That doesnt seem to last. I had that procedure done and my CEL was back on as soon as it got cold again. This time they replaced with a new revised version. Sounds to me like Mazda was trying to fix the problem without sending the new part. Dealer told me they were on backorder and they had to have it overnighted from factory. So if you are having repeating CEL's in cold weather that is your problem. The Mazda 3 is having the same problems(same engine)

Funny thing is that is exactly what happened. Our dealership told us that this part was going to have to be replaced but Mazda told them they couldn't order it from them because it was on back order. They had the dealership apply the fix, which didn't work, which is why we got the 3rd check engine light. They told Mazda they got another code related to this part the third CEL and Mazda let them order the new revised part which has been installed. Hopefully this is it for all of the "bugs" with our CX-7.

Here in SoCalifornia we've had nothing but warm weather, but for a brief storm or two, all winter. 1st tank of gas, the fuel got low and the CEL came on. Went to dealer, made appointment for CEL fix. Told me there were some parts to install, and that there was a recall on the CX-7's for CEL problems. Part of it involved replacing the gas cap assembly, but there was more to it because I waited for the car during this service and it took the mechanic more than 2 hours to "finish the job".
There was no disclosure as to what other parts were replaced, just notes about reprogramming the Control Module, and performed "Service Program MSP13", with "Process #A0685A"; replaced part number "MAZ FEY2-42-250", description = "Cap Fuel". Fault Code #99; Diagnosis #99.
And some 3 tanks of fuel later, no more CEL's coming on. The CX-7 has been running great, with no problems since the above process.
