Well, I am not quite sure I am prepared to give up on the OEM Nav just yet. Anything can be done... I went ahead and bought it. I am going to try to get it done. All I need to find now is the main DVD unit. The GPS antenna and the harness I am sure can be found as well... All keep you guys posted. Any thoughts or ideas please let me know!
I am starting this thread to keep track of progress, findings and thoughts from forum members. Having it all in one place will make the process easier for us all.

Good luck. It has been attempted before here, but no luck, it is a lot of work.

Thanks. I think the first obstacle is going to be finding the DVD nav drive that goes under the passenger seat. Any ideas?

www.car-part.com,(might have to call or email) www.mazdarecycling.com (nothing listed on website, but there are some pretty cool pics of smooshed up cars)
Seriously, if you go over $1000 into this, you are spending too much. There are aftermarket units which fit great, and are an all in one, including MP3 file storage. Just a thought.
Remenber that you need the bose system for the sound, because the head unit does't have internal amp.

I'm pulling the whole damn thing OUT of my CX-7 next week. Why bother installing OEM? Go with one of the kick-ass aftermarket systems... they are SO much better.

What options do I have without bose? Can I install an aftermarket amp to at least get the stereo working on the Nav unit? The volume knob right now doesnt do anything - it is the same level output regardless of the number. I wonder if I splice the speaker out wires and run them through an aftermarket amp... will that work?

Giving up. I paid $950 for the NAV unit. I am going to stick it on ebay in a couple days. Thought I would offer it up here first. Any offers?

Thanks but can't do that... Already turned down an offer for $800. Shop around, you'll see how expensive they are!
